Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, has said that Pakistan will not accept the use of water as a weapon by India under any circumstances, according to the reports today.
He made these remarks while addressing a debate on global peace and security at the United Nations Security Council.
During his speech, Ishaq Dar said the United Nations guarantees fundamental principles. These include equality, human rights, and the right to self-determination.
He also added that Pakistan fully follows these principles and the UN Charter.
Further, DPM Dar added that Pakistan has always supported the peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
The deputy prime minister said countries must act responsibly to ensure global peace and stability. He stressed the importance of resolving disputes according to the UN Charter.
He also said that Pakistan has continued to call for dialogue and peaceful solutions during recent tensions in the Middle East.
According to him, the situation is creating challenges not only for the region but also for the global economy.
Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan has made sincere diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions. He also thanked friendly countries for their support and cooperation.
Speaking about the Kashmir issue, he said the dispute has remained unresolved for the past eight decades. He added that the issue requires the implementation of international laws and agreements.
He further stated that Pakistan does not accept any unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India. Further, he said that using water as a weapon is completely unacceptable.
He said lasting peace in the region requires all parties to act responsibly and respect international agreements to prevent further escalation of conflicts.
Ishaq Dar to visit New York
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar will visit New York from May 26 to 28, departing from Beijing.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Dar will participate in an open debate of the UN Security Council in New York on May 26, 2026.
