The government has announced that the passport offices across Pakistan will remain closed for three days on the occasion of Eid ul Azha 2026.

According to the details shared by the official notification, all passport offices will remain closed from May 26 to May 28, 2026. During this all passport related services will be suspended.

The announcement further stated that even 24 hour operational passport centres will also remain closed from 12:00 midnight between May 25 and May 26 until 8:00 AM on May 29.

However, authorities have said that limited services will remain available through the online portal during this period. This will allow the citizens to submit and process their important applications.

Eid ul Azha 2026 is expected to be observed on May 27, which falls on a Wednesday. In addition to this, the federal government has declared a three day public holiday. Reports say that this also led to the temporary closure of passport offices.

Citizens have been advised to avoid visiting passport offices during the closure period. It has been advised that people use online facilities for urgent needs instead of visiting.

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, under the Ministry of Interior, issues Pakistani passports, which serve as official travel documents for international travel.

Pakistan to introduce cashless passport fee payment system

A high level meeting was held to review plans for introducing a fully cashless system for passport fee payments across Pakistan.

The meeting was chaired by the Director General of Immigration and Passports, Muhammad Ali Randhawa.

The session took place at the Passport Headquarters. It was attended by representatives from the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), JazzCash, Easypaisa, and other financial and fintech organisations.

Under the new system, citizens will soon be able to pay passport fees through mobile wallets, banking apps, and digital payment platforms without visiting bank branches.
