Pakistan has secured the 16th position in the global outsourcing talent index, reflecting growing recognition of its technology workforce and expanding digital economy.

According to the index report, the country’s tech sector is currently growing at an annual rate of 20 percent. The report also suggests that with improvements in digital infrastructure, Pakistan could rise from 16th to 11th place in the coming period.

Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said efforts are underway to position Pakistan as a global centre for technology and outsourcing services. She said the ministry’s broader goal is to establish the country as a major international tech hub.

Highlighting recent developments, the minister said the spectrum auction has been completed, while work on the fibreisation plan is progressing at a faster pace. She added that three new submarine cables are expected to further strengthen internet connectivity across the country.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja also noted that a plan is being considered to improve terrestrial digital links with China and Central Asian states, which could expand regional connectivity and support data flow.

On skills development, she said a target has been set to train one million young people in artificial intelligence skills. She added that the DigiSkills programme is helping promote freelancing opportunities and digital training across the country.

The minister further said Pakistan has participated in more than 40 global technology events over the past 18 months. During the same period, over 400 Pakistani companies and startups have been represented on international platforms, reflecting growing global engagement in the tech sector.
