Pakistan announces three day holiday from May 1

Pakistan is going to have three consecutive holidays with Labour Day being observed on Friday, May 1, followed by the weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, as confirmed today.

With three consecutive holidays approaching, the government has directed that salaries be paid early.

Labour Day will be observed on Friday, May 1, followed by the weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday.

In view of these holidays, the Punjab government has instructed that salaries for government employees be disbursed on April 30.

According to the notification issued by the Punjab Finance Department, all departments must make sure of timely payment before the holidays begin.

The Government of Pakistan has already released the official list of public, bank, and optional holidays for 2026, which includes Labour Day on May 1.

Holiday in Pakistan 2026

Earlier, the Government of Pakistan announced the public and optional holidays for 2026 through a notification that had been issued by the Cabinet Secretariat.

The Cabinet Division released the complete holiday schedule for the year 2026. It covers national days, Islamic occasions, and minority festivals.

According to the notification, the first public holiday of the year falls on Kashmir Day on February 5. It was followed by Pakistan Day on March 23. Eid ul Fitr holidays were expected from March 21 to 23.

The upcoming holidays include Labour Day. It will fall on May 1, followed by Youm-e-Takbeer on May 28.

Eid ul Azha holidays are expected from May 27 to 29. Public holidays will also be observed on 9th and 10th Muharram. They are expected to fall on June 24 and 25.

Independence Day will be marked on August 14. Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) will be observed on August 25.

Allama Iqbal Day will fall on November 9, and December 25 will be observed as a public holiday on Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday as well as Christmas.

December 26 will be a holiday for the Christian community only. Bank holidays will be observed on January 1 and July 1.
