Pakistan weather update: See where it will rain tomorrow

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in several parts of Pakistan on Saturday, August 22. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The weather is expected to continue until August 23. The authority has also warned of urban flooding and landslides in areas at risk.

Where will it rain in Pakistan tomorrow?

Islamabad and Rawalpindi are likely to receive rain with some heavy falls. Rain is also expected in parts of Punjab, including Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore and nearby areas.

Several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Mardan, Swabi and Peshawar may also receive rain.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to see scattered rain and thunderstorms, with heavy rain at some places.

Some areas of Balochistan may also receive thunderstorms in the evening or at night. Most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid with little or no rain.

PDMA: Which KP districts expect rain?

According to the PDMA, upper districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur and Kohistan may receive rain.

Rain is also expected in plain areas including Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram and Hangu.

The PDMA said low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi could face urban flooding. Heavy rain may also cause landslides in hilly areas.

Authorities asked to stay alert

The authority warned that strong winds and thunderstorms could damage weak buildings, electricity poles, billboards and solar panels.

District administrations have been told to take safety steps in areas at risk. They have also been asked to keep a close watch on rivers, streams and stormwater channels.

The PDMA advised people to stay away from rivers and other waterways during rain. Parents were also asked to keep children away from ponds, streams and other water channels.

People should avoid touching exposed electric wires and using electrical appliances during thunderstorms.

What should tourists do?

Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather. Rescue teams have also been told to remain ready with emergency equipment to deal with possible floods and landslides.

Citizens can call the PDMA helpline at 1700 for weather updates or to report an emergency.
