85 Pakistani students set to leave for US under Fulbright scholarships

The United States announced 85 Fulbright scholarships for talented Pakistani students and researchers to pursue higher education in the US. The selected students attended a two day orientation seminar organised by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) in Islamabad.

Speaking at the event, US Chargé d’Affaires Andrew Haviland said Pakistan is home to one of the world’s largest Fulbright programmes.

He said that educational exchanges help strengthen ties between the two countries and allow people to learn from each other.

Further, he congratulated the students and said they had earned the opportunity through their hard work and talent. He added that they would play an important role in shaping the future of Pakistan-US relations.

Fulbright scholarships for Pakistani students

Under the programme, the selected candidates will study for master’s and PhD degrees at leading American universities.

The programme in Pakistan is managed by the USEFP. The scholarship is funded by the governments of Pakistan and the United States.

The 2026 Fulbright scholars were selected on merit and belong to different provinces of Pakistan.

They will study subjects including engineering, artificial intelligence, business, finance, public policy and social sciences.

This year’s group includes 71 master’s students and 14 PhD scholars. In addition, six teachers have been selected as Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants and will begin their programme later this year.

Benifits

The scholarship covers university tuition fees, airfare, a monthly living allowance and health insurance. All expenses will be paid by the US government.

USEFP Executive Director Dr Peter Moran said the programme gives students a chance to receive a quality education.
