Rawalpindi: Traffic advisory issued as underpass work continues on Peshawar Road

Development work on the underpass project near Westridge on Peshawar Road in Rawalpindi is continuing at a fast pace, according to the reports on Wednesday.

Authorities have decided that the construction work will be done at a faster pace in the area near the Shell fuel station at Westridge.

Schools shift to online classes

Several schools in the area, including Roots International Schools & Colleges and Beaconhouse School System, have reportedly been told to suspend on-campus classes from May 11. This will be done until the conditions return to normal.

Peshawar Road, Rawalpindi: traffic advisory

A traffic advisory has been issued for people who will be travelling through Peshawar Road may face traffic jams and diversions because of the construction work.

Travellers going towards Motorways M1 and M2, Islamabad International Airport, G.T. Road, Golra Mor, Peshawar, Taxila, Abbottabad, and Islamabad have been advised to use alternate routes and leave earlier to avoid delays.

Heavy traffic is expected between Racecourse and Chur Chowk, according to the traffic advisory.

Residents, businesses affected

People living in Westridge, Racecourse, and nearby areas may face dust and other problems caused by the construction work, the update adds.

Businesses and organisations that are operating in the area, including McDonald’s, have also been advised to plan ahead. This is so that transport and supply operations may be affected.

Officials have not yet announced a final completion date for the project. Authorities are expected to share a detailed traffic diversion plan soon.

Lahore traffic police launches crackdown

Traffic police, on Sunday initiated a citywide operation in Lahore targeting underage and unlicensed drivers, declaring that strict measures would be enforced against those who violate traffic laws.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi stated that vehicles and motorcycles operated by underage drivers would be confiscated and transported to police stations, in addition to the issuance of fines.

He mentioned that drivers of cars with learner permits or expired licenses in Lahore would face a penalty of Rs. 5,000, while motorcycle operators would be subject to a fine of Rs2,000 for similar violations.
