Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to make the SMS service required for registration under the fuel subsidy scheme free of charge.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to review the fuel subsidy relief programme.
Under the scheme, motorcyclists, rickshaw owners and owners of vehicles up to 800cc will receive fuel subsidies.
The scheme will begin in Islamabad during the night between September 14 and 15, while the relief will be rolled out across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, during the night between September 16 and 17.
Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed the chief commissioner, inspector general and other Islamabad administration officials to remain in the field and guide citizens through the registration process.
He directed authorities to provide people with all possible assistance in completing registration and other required procedures. Public representatives and volunteers will also be mobilised to help citizens register for the scheme and complete the necessary steps.
The prime minister further ordered an extensive media awareness campaign about the fuel subsidy programme, directing authorities to accelerate publicity efforts across social media and other platforms.

Earlier, Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima has clarified that citizens can receive the government’s Rs100-per-litre petrol subsidy even if the motorcycle or car they use is not registered in their own name.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Federal Ministers Attaullah Tarar and Ali Pervaiz Malik, Shaza Fatima briefed the media on the procedure and key features of the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.
She said the government launched the programme to provide relief to low-income citizens following a rise in petroleum prices caused by the changing global situation and conflict in the region.
Under the scheme, motorcyclists and owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc will receive a Rs100-per-litre subsidy on petrol.
