PM Shehbaz forms high-level committee on One Constitution Avenue issue

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a high-level committee to address the ongoing issue surrounding One Constitution Avenue.

The committee will be headed by Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazir Tarar and includes Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, along with the Cabinet Secretary and the Commerce Secretary.

The committee will review the entire matter over the next week and submit a comprehensive report to the Prime Minister. During this period, any affected individuals will have the opportunity to present their objections. The committee will hear all parties and affected persons without discrimination.

No action will be taken by the Islamabad administration or the Capital Development Authority (CDA) until the Prime Minister makes a final decision on the matter.

The Prime Minister has issued instructions to establish this special committee to ensure that the requirements of justice are fully met in the One Constitution Avenue case.

It is worth mentioning here that the eviction of One Constitution Avenue luxury apartments in the heart of the capital has created a sense of unrest and doubt amongst the residents of Islamabad, while some circles are viewing it as a political stunt by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) instead of a legal battle.

The Capital Development Authority has termed the action against One Constitution Avenue a legal and contractual matter, saying the project started by the BNP (Bismillah group) remained in default for years despite repeated relief and rescheduling.

According to official documents, the 13.5-acre plot near the Jinnah Convention Centre was leased in 2005 for the construction of a five-star hotel project. M/s BNP won the bid with the highest offer of Rs. 4.882 billion.
