The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has officially approved increase in MBBS seats at government medical colleges across Punjab.
This marks an important step towards expanding medical education capacity in the province.
According to the approved plan, the PMDC has added 475 new MBBS seats to government medical colleges in Punjab, raising the total number of MBBS seats from 3,476 to 3,951.
The approval reflects PMDC’s efforts to respond to the growing demand for medical professionals in Pakistan. The expansion is expected to improve access to medical education for students.
In addition, the overall seat capacity in Punjab’s government medical and dental colleges has also risen. The combined total number of seats for both MBBS and Dental colleges in public-sector has reached 4,241.
Moreover, this move is also expected to benefit students who miss admission because of the highly competitive merit system, offering more deserving candidates an opportunity to enter the medical profession.
Previously, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) extended the registration deadline for MDCAT 2026, according to reports. The extension brought huge relief to thousands of students who could not complete their registration on time. MDCAT 2026 exam will be held across Pakistan on August 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
According to the new schedule, candidates can now register online with the regular fee until July 13, 2026.
Students who missed the deadline will still be able to register until July 18, 2026. However, they will have to pay a late fee.
PMDC has advised students in Pakistan and abroad to complete their registration as early as possible. This will help them in avoiding the website traffic and last minute technical issues.
The council also made it clear that no further extension will be given after July 18, 2026.
