NADRA issues new guidelines on ‘Proof of Life’ certificate to receive pension

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified that pension of the retired government servants will not be stopped in case if the ‘Proof of Life’ certificate could not be issued during September.

According to NADRA Public Information Officer Syed Shahab Ali, the government has not decided to suspend pension payments on this basis.

The clarification comes amid questions about whether retired employees must obtain the certificate from NADRA within a specified timeframe to continue receiving their pensions.

NADRA said it was working with relevant institutions to facilitate the issuance of ‘Proof of Life’ certificates and simplify the process, particularly for elderly pensioners.

The authority said pension payments would not be withheld solely because a certificate could not be issued in September.

The clarification applies to retired employees of federal and provincial government departments, as well as pensioners from the armed forces, according to NADRA.

Retired employees of institutions that have yet to finalise arrangements with NADRA for issuing the certificates will also not be affected, the authority said.

NADRA said the facility was intended to reduce the burden on elderly pensioners by limiting the need for repeated visits to government offices.

Pensioners should, however, check the requirements of their respective pension-disbursing institutions, as the clarification specifically concerns the non-issuance of the certificate by NADRA within the stated timeframe.
