The Punjab University (PU) recently held a ceremony to launch an ‘Online Internship’ programme in partnership with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries, aimed at strengthening academic and professional connections, on Wednesday.
The event was graced by the presence of Indonesian Ambassador Lt. Gen (r) Chandra Warsenanto, Thai Ambassador Rongvudhi Virabutr, Philippine Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez, Malaysian High Commissioner Dato Muhammad Azhar Mazlan, Brunei Darussalam High Commissioner Colonel (r) Kamal Basha, Myanmar Ambassador Wunna Han, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Director of the Career Counseling and Placement Center Dr. Fauzia Hadi Ali, officials from ASEAN embassies, and faculty members of the university.
In his speech, Indonesian Ambassador Lt. Gen (r) Chandra Warsenanto stated that the visit was intended to strengthen relationships with students.
He highlighted that 78 Pakistani students had received scholarships to study in Indonesia last year, and many Pakistani students are currently pursuing their education in various ASEAN nations.
He further said that the online internship programme would further improve academic and cultural ties between Punjab University and the member states of ASEAN.
Online internship programme to provide international experience
The online internship initiative is expected to offer Punjab University students the chance to gain international experience, engage in online learning, and improve their professional competencies.
He also praised Pakistani peacekeepers, sharing his experiences of working alongside them in UN missions, describing them as “fearless, brave, and highly trained.”
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali remarked that the university’s goal is to connect students from ASEAN countries with the youth of PU, noting that collaboration in science and technology is very important in today’s global landscape.
He mentioned that initiatives are in progress to promote joint degree programmes and collaborative research efforts among scientists, educators, and students.
He also expressed his appreciation to the ASEAN Community Islamabad for launching the programme.
