The Punjab Food Authority conducted a major operation at Sukheki Interchange on the M-2 Motorway, which led to action against several well-known food chains.

Four outlets, including one from a major international chain, were sealed after officials found serious hygiene violations.

The authority also imposed fines of Rs35 million and destroyed more than 40 kilograms of poor-quality and banned food.

During the operation, officials found food that was declared unsafe for consumption. One of these outlets was reportedly Hardees.

More than 40 kilograms of substandard and prohibited food items were confiscated and destroyed.

Punjab Food Authority Director General Salma Butt said the campaign against food adulteration, unsafe food and illegal practices will continue across the province.

She said inspection teams are checking food at every stage, from production and storage to distribution and sale.

Further, she added that, under the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the authority is following a zero-tolerance policy against food safety violations.

She said that strict action will be taken against any business that puts public health at risk. The authority also said expired, adulterated and substandard food products will not be allowed into the market.

Multiple famous ice cream outlets sealed in Lahore

Previously, the Punjab Food Authority sealed several outlets of well-known ice cream brands in Lahore after inspection teams found expired and poor-quality food items.

Videos shared on social media showed inspection teams pointing out food safety and cleanliness violations.

Officials said the outlet was sealed after they confirmed that it was not following hygiene rules and was storing expired products.

The Punjab Food Authority said routine inspections will continue to protect public health and stop the sale of expired and substandard food products.

Recently, the Punjab government seized a large quantity of expired imported food products. The authority has also sealed two warehouses in Lahore after discovering that expiry dates had allegedly been changed before the items were sold in the market.
