Punjab govt urges IDAP to speed up completion of health projects

The Punjab government has instructed the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) to speed up the progress of various ongoing health projects across the province.

This directive was communicated by Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique during a meeting of the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education held on Wednesday.

The meeting assessed the advancement of the Nawaz Sharif Medical District and the construction of the Lady Willingdon Hospital.

While addressing the attendees, the Minister remarked that transformative and historic health projects valued at billions of rupees are being initiated across Punjab.

He emphasised that as part of the Nawaz Sharif Medical District initiative, numerous significant facilities will be established in Lahore, which include Children’s Hospital 2, the Institute of Genetic and Blood Diseases, the Institute of Surgical, Orthopedic and Medical Rehabilitation, the Center of Excellence for Nursing Education, a specialised medical hospital, a 1,000-bed cardiac hospital, a medical university, and a cutting-edge diagnostic laboratory.

He further mentioned that IDAP has been tasked with ensuring the immediate completion of these projects, while a network of new government hospitals is also being constructed across the province to improve public access to healthcare services.

Secretary of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood affirmed that delivering quality healthcare at the doorstep of citizens remains the government’s foremost priority.

He indicated that the projects under the Nawaz Sharif Medical District and the Lady Willingdon Hospital are being closely monitored to guarantee their timely completion.

During the meeting, IDAP officials, including Maira Ali and others, participated via video link and provided updates on the latest progress of the projects.

The session was attended by Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University, Professor Mahmood Ayaz, Special Secretary for Development Ahmed Kamal Maan, Chief Planning Officer, Additional Secretary Amira Bedar, Senior Planning Officer Fatima Noreen, and other relevant officials.
