Punjab launches ‘Rehmat Card Program’ to support widows, orphans

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the ‘Rehmat Card Program’ during a ceremony in Lahore.

According to details shared in the briefing, Rs5 billion has been allocated from the provincial Zakat Fund for the initiative. Under the program, 50,000 widows and orphans will receive financial assistance of Rs100,000 each.

The selection process for deserving individuals will be made transparent through the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry database. A final list will also be prepared under a specific quota allocated for each district.

This initiative aims to provide direct financial assistance to deserving families while eliminating the possibility of corruption or favouritism.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that the main objective of the Rehmat Card Program is to ensure economic security and social dignity for vulnerable segments of society, especially widows and orphans.

She further stated that the government will not leave any deserving person unattended and is working to implement the concept of a welfare state. She added that this program marks the beginning of a new era of public service that will bring relief to thousands of families.

The Chief Minister said that he believes in serving the people rather than engaging in traditional politics. She expressed hope that no widow or orphan in Punjab should ever feel helpless.
