The Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has approved a significant reduction in traffic fines across the province on Wednesday.
According to the details, CM Maryam has approved the summary presented by the DIG Traffic Punjab, which recommends a reduction in the rates of traffic challans.
What are new traffic fines
According to the new summary, motorcycle fines have been reduced from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000, while rickshaw fines have also been reduced from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000.
However, the fine for major violations will remain at Rs2,000, according to the details.
Fines for cars and jeeps have been reduced from Rs5,000 to Rs3,000. However, fines for overspeeding motorcycles, rickshaws and cars will remain the same.
In addition to this, luxury vehicles above 2,000 cc will now attract a fine of Rs10,000 instead of Rs20,000, while the minimum fine will be Rs2,000.
Fines for small passenger vehicles such as Mazdas, coasters and light vans have been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs7,000.
Additionally, fines for heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses have been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000.
The adjustment will also lessen the fines for other violations committed by light and heavy vehicles by Rs10,000. This reduces the overall financial burden on drivers.
Speeding crackdown intensifies
Previously, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) stepped up enforcement in the central region by issuing more than 12,990 challans for speeding violations in March 2026.
The step had been taken as part of an ongoing crackdown.
The campaign came under a strict zero tolerance policy targeting speeding. The officials wanted to improve road safety and significantly reduce traffic accidents across the region.
According to the provided data, MC-1 Lahore recorded 5,641 fines for breaches of the newly placed speed limits.
In addition to this, the N-5 Central Zone in Lahore issued 3,597 challans during a targeted operation against traffic violations on highways.
