Shafi Jan is currently facing public backlash after his vulgar and controversial statements regarding women, especially against the Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

In his speech in the KP assembly, he uttered some very disrespectful and controversial statements about the Punjab CM, which have initiated a social media debate.

Even those who support the narrative of the PTI are questioning Shafi Jan’s behaviour towards women.

Here is a glimpse of some screenshots on X, showing how disturbed the public of Pakistan is right now:

A social media user named ‘Qasim Jan’ said that you represent a province, yet your language regarding women shows that you are some sort of fruit seller. He added that whoever is a true Pashtoon will be ashamed today because of your statement.

Another X account username, ‘Muhammad Adnan’, commented that there has been enough politics of threats. Pakistan needs peace, stability and development, not confrontation.

“You should not have used that filthy language against your political opponents, especially against women; you are damaging the narrative of PTI”, said a user.

A user added his concerns, saying that Mr Shafi Jan, this was not Imran Khan’s view that inappropriate and offensive words should be used against a woman. Please refrain from making such statements.

Having political differences with anyone is everyone’s legal right, but using this as an excuse to assassinate the character of some women is a serious and unacceptable act and against Pashtun traditions. Shafi Jan’s way of speaking against Azma Bokhari is raising serious questions about his reputation and upbringing. While speaking against opponents, he should not let go of decency.

Meanwhile, journalists have also condemned the statement made by PTI’s Shafi Jan.

Senior journalist Ajmal Jami said in his tweet on X that Shafi Jan’s statement is unfortunate and a shameful act, which should be condemned whatsoever.
