Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that 14 more electric buses will soon be added to the public transport system in Sahiwal, according to reports on Friday.
The announcement was made during a meeting with members of the Punjab Assembly from Sahiwal. The meeting focused on development work and public services in the district.
The meeting was attended by MPAs Wilayat Shah, Qasim Nadeem, Arshad Malik, Nadeem Aslam Lodhi, Rana Riaz Ahmed and Muhammad Hanif.
CM orders monitoring of development projects
Maryam Nawaz asked the MPAs to keep a close check on development projects in Sahiwal.
She said the quality of the work must be maintained. She also stressed that public money should be used properly and projects should be completed as planned.
Which projects are underway?
The MPAs told the chief minister that several projects were helping people in the area. These included the Arifwala Bypass, Yusufwala, Noor Shah, KFC Bypass and the General Bus Stand-Kamir route.
They also mentioned work at Adda Sabeel and Bala Mor. The existing electric bus service was also discussed during the meeting.
What is being done for villages and education?
Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government was not limiting development work to big cities. She said projects were also being taken to villages and local communities.
She also spoke about the Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence. She said these schools would give children from poor and wealthy families the same chance to receive a good education.
According to the chief minister, the schools will have standards similar to leading private schools.
Shalimar Express between Lahore and Karachi via Sahiwal
Pakistan Railways had previously announced that the Shalimar Express will resume operations from August 14.
The train is now running between Lahore and Karachi via Sahiwal. According to railway officials, five new stops have been added to the train’s revised route: Kot Lakhpat, Raiwind, Okara, Sahiwal and Sadiqabad.
The route has been changed following the closure of the railway bridge at Qila Sattar Shah and Masan Kallar, which was affected by floodwaters.
The Shalimar Express previously operated from Lahore to Karachi via Faisalabad. However, due to the disruption on that route, the train will temporarily operate via Sahiwal.
