The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its forecast for the sighting of the Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH moon on Thursday.
According to the PMD, the moon is unlikely to be sighted on the evening of August 13 because its age and other astronomical conditions are not expected to be suitable for visibility.
When will 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal be observed?
If the moon is not sighted on August 13, 1 Rabi-ul-Awwal is expected to fall on August 15. This means that 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal is likely to be observed on August 26, when Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) is expected to be celebrated.
The PMD said that partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the country on August 13. In Karachi, the moon is expected to set at 7:40 PM.
However, the department clarified that the final announcement regarding the sighting of the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon and the beginning of the new Islamic month will be made by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The holiday for 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal in Pakistan is now expected to be observed on August 26, Wednesday.
Karachi weather
According to the PMD, the weather in Karachi will remain partly cloudy and humid from August 6 to 8. There is also a chance of light drizzle during the night and early morning.
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 32°C and 35°C. The minimum temperatures will range from 27°C to 29°C. Humidity levels are likely to stay high. This will make the weather feel warm and muggy, especially during the morning.
The department said that the southwesterly winds will continue to blow across the city. The ongoing monsoon pattern is expected to keep Karachi relatively cooler than many other parts of the province.
Safar moon sighted
Recently, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Safar al-Muzaffar moon. The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony also issued an official notification for it.
According to the announcement, the crescent moon marking the beginning of Safar 1448 AH, the second month of the Islamic calendar, was sighted on Wednesday.
As a result, 1 Safar 1448 AH will be observed on Thursday, July 16, 2026, across Pakistan.
