Weather alert: Rain, hailstorms expected across KP till June 5

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast intermittent rainfall, hailstorms, strong winds and thunderstorms across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) starting tomorrow, Tuesday, through June 5.

In view of the possible weather conditions, the PDMA has issued a high alert to district administrations across the province and directed them to take precautionary measures. According to a PDMA spokesperson, heavy rainfall and hailstorms are expected during this period in upper districts including Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.

There is also a possibility of rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank.

Landslides are expected in the upper districts due to rainfall, while rivers and streams may overflow in several areas. Flash flooding is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Abbottabad, and Kohistan, whereas urban flooding has been forecast in plain areas, particularly Peshawar, Mardan, and Nowshera.

The PDMA has warned that strong winds and hailstorms may damage weak structures, electricity poles, and solar panels, as well as standing crops across the province. Farmers have been advised to take immediate protective measures.

The PDMA has instructed all district administrations and relevant institutions to ensure the readiness of rescue teams and the availability of necessary resources. Immediate steps should be taken to keep major highways open, maintain traffic flow, arrange alternative routes where necessary, and clean drainage systems to prevent urban flooding.

The administration has also been directed to advise tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and remain informed about weather conditions. The public has been urged to stay away from floodwaters, rivers, and other hazardous areas.
