Raphinha has left Brazil’s national team camp after developing swelling in his right thigh. The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the decision on Wednesday. The Barcelona forward underwent an imaging scan after feeling discomfort during Brazil’s 4-2 win over Australia. The scan showed a small muscle oedema in the back of his right thigh. As a result, he will return to his club. Brazil decided to release him as a precaution.
Raphinha substituted against Australia
Raphinha started Brazil’s friendly against Australia on Tuesday. He scored from the penalty spot before leaving the pitch at half-time. Endrick replaced him after the break. Brazil later completed a 4-2 victory in Brisbane. The result came after Brazil drew 1-1 with Australia in their previous friendly. Raphinha had played the full match in that game. He also provided the assist for Rayan’s late equaliser during that first meeting.
The latest injury update has raised concerns because Raphinha has previously struggled with fitness issues.
Brazil confirms muscle swelling
The Brazilian Football Confederation said an examination detected a small muscle oedema. The problem affects the posterior area of his right thigh. Brazil will not call up another player to replace Raphinha. He will therefore miss the team’s upcoming friendly against India. The match is scheduled for Saturday in Kolkata. Brazil will continue its international programme without the Barcelona winger. The decision also gives Raphinha time to recover before returning to club football. The Brazilian federation said the move aims to support his recovery.
Raphinha has previous injury concerns
The latest problem involves the same leg that caused issues earlier this year. Raphinha missed four matches in April because of a hamstring problem. He also suffered that injury while playing for Brazil. He made only 33 club appearances last season because of fitness problems. That history adds attention to his latest thigh issue. Despite those concerns, Raphinha has started the current club season strongly.
He has scored 14 goals and provided three assists in eight appearances for Barcelona. The club’s next scheduled LaLiga match is against Getafe on October 10. For now, Brazil will monitor the situation while Raphinha begins his recovery with Barcelona. The federation has not announced a longer absence from club football.
However, further medical assessment will determine how quickly he can return.
