The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a significant reduction in the prices of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) for August 2026, cutting rates by up to 27.7 percent.
According to OGRA’s latest notification, the reduction comes amid lower international LNG prices and a sharp decline in Pakistan’s LNG imports during the month. Pakistan imported only one LNG cargo from Qatar under a long-term agreement, while no cargo was purchased from the spot market.
For consumers of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the RLNG price has been reduced by $6.9527 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), or 27.71 percent. The new price has been fixed at $18.1345 per MMBtu for August, compared to $25.087 per MMBtu in July.
Similarly, RLNG prices for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) consumers have been slashed by $6.81 per MMBtu, reflecting a 26.36 percent reduction. The revised price stands at $19.0276 per MMBtu, down from $25.8388 per MMBtu in July.
OGRA said the revised prices were calculated based on a single LNG cargo imported by Pakistan State Oil (PSO) from Qatar under a long-term contract linked to Brent crude oil prices at a slope of 13.37 percent.
Pakistan imports LNG from Qatar under two long-term, Brent crude-linked agreements. However, Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) did not procure any LNG cargo from the spot market during August.
The August import marks one of the lowest monthly LNG procurements since Pakistan started importing the fuel. Despite disruptions to Qatar’s energy infrastructure earlier this year, Pakistan managed to secure one LNG cargo during the month.
RLNG remains a crucial part of Pakistan’s energy sector, accounting for around one-fifth of the country’s energy mix and helping bridge the gap caused by persistent shortages in domestic natural gas supplies.
Earlier, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) increased sharply in Lahore due to the shortage and frequent interruptions of piped gas.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has fixed the official LPG price at Rs254.32 per kilogram.
However, according to the reports, LPG is being sold in Lahore at prices ranging from Rs370 to Rs520 per kilogram.
This means that consumers are paying up to Rs266 more per kilogram than the official rate.
The sudden increase has caused concern among LPG users. Many households have turned to LPG. This is because of frequent gas supply interruptions and load-shedding.
