PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique has said after the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) elections, the top leadership of the PML-N itself contacted the PPP and assured them of cooperation in government formation, therefore there is no justification for criticising or blaming the PML-N.
In his statement on X, Khawaja Saad Rafique said that in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, the PPP received approximately 28 percent of the votes while the PML-N received 22 percent.
He said that according to the unconfirmed and unofficial results, the PPP won 10 seats and the PML-N won 6 seats, while two independent candidates were also supported by the PML-N.
He said that the PPP chairman is well aware that the top leadership of the PML-N had contacted President Asif Ali Zardari and the PPP leadership within 72 hours of the elections and had showed intention to support the PPP in forming the government by recognising the PPP as the single largest party in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
Khawaja Saad Rafique said that the of the PML-N was to protect Gilgit-Baltistan from horse trading and political bargaining, therefore, there is no justification for the PPP leadership to make accusations and adopt a contemptuous attitude against the PML-N.
He said that the entire responsibility for the conduct of by-elections in some constituencies on June 15 lies with Election Commission.
According to him, the results of one PML-N seat have also been challenged.
The PML-N added that those who used every tactic to gain local government in Karachi and reneged on promises made to the MQM on the guarantee of the PML-N cannot criticise the PML-N for forming the government in Lahore.
Khawaja Saad Rafique said that the PML-N respects the leadership of the PPP, however, respect cannot be one-sided and respect from both sides is necessary in mutual political relations.
