Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has expressed support for students protesting against the Modi government, saying their campaign for improvements in India’s education system deserves attention and respect.
In a statement shared on X, Salman Khan said it was deeply unfortunate that a peaceful movement seeking better education faced force instead of support. He expressed sympathy for students who were injured during the protests.
Salman said he was pleased to see students across India standing together for a stronger education system. Salman further added that he wholeheartedly saluted the courage and passion demonstrated by the students. According to him, the determination of students shows that they want to study, build a brighter future and contribute towards a more educated and progressive India.
However, Salman stressed that the issue should not be titled as a political matter. Rather, it should be primarily taken as a matter concerning students and the education system. According to him, the real measure of success would be whether the country’s students ultimately benefit from the movement.
Salman also expressed hope that the government would support the students and introduce the necessary measures to strengthen the education system.
He mentioned that such reforms would ultimately benefit society as a whole rather than only those currently participating in the protests. Salman said he hoped and prayed that the matter would be resolved positively.
Previously, India’s Supreme Court refused to take up an urgent plea seeking action over police brutality against student protesters during the July 20 “Chalo Sansad” demonstration organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in New Delhi.
A lawyer urged the Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, to initiate suo motu proceedings over the alleged police crackdown, claiming there was videographic evidence of excessive force used against the protesters.
