Former Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza has voiced solidarity with the students protesting in Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and asked the Government of India to bring in real change in the education system of the nation.
In a post on Instagram, Mirza expressed concern about students who have been preparing for the all-important National Eligibleness-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for years and now seem to be in limbo due to the latest developments.
She urged the government to pay heed to the grievances of students and take note of their concerns, and make a positive change to rebuild trust in the education sector.
Mirza also emphasised that violence is unacceptable in society and pledged to all parties working together to find a peaceful resolution that would ensure the future of the young people.
Students from all over India have been demanding for a big education revolution and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan since the allegations of leakage of NEET examination paper.
The scandal has brought a lot of mental anguish to the candidates, says the protesters, and at least 12 students are dead by suicide in the wake of the controversy.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of India had rejected an urgent plea demanding action against the police for allegedly brutally suppressing the student protesters who staged a protest to the Parliament in New Delhi on July 20 on behalf of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). A lawyer told the Bench, presided by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, that it must start suo moto proceedings against the alleged police atrocity as there were video evidences of police brutality against the protesters.
