The former women’s English star, Sarah Taylor, has been named the fielding coach for the men’s squad of England cricket for their upcoming series against New Zealand.
Carl Hopkinson who is the actual fielding coach will be temporarily replaced by Sarah Taylor. This appointment made her the first female coach to be hired by the England senior men’s team.
This appointment is followed by her successful stint with the England Lions. In the England Lions she worked under the legendary bowler Andrew Flintoff.
Sarah Taylor is widely regarded as one of the greatest wicketkeepers in the game of cricket.
She debuted in 2006 and has played in 226 games for England. She retired in 2019. She is also regarded as one of the greatest English players.
Another interesting development was the former Australian batter Marcus North being announced as the new national selector earlier on Wednesday.
North has now officially joined the ECB before that he was the director of cricket at Durham County since October 2018.
This will not be the first time Taylor will be coaching a Men’s team. She has already coached England Lions, Sussex and Manchester Originals.
England’s managing director of men’s cricket Rob Key said, “She’s one of the best in the business at what she does”
“She’s been outstanding, and she’s worked a lot with [Lions head coach] Andrew Flintoff and Ed Barney [performance director].”
“They can’t speak highly enough of her. So from what we can see, she’s one of the best in the business.”
Taylor also gave an interview to a private news outlet last year and said, “I still am not someone who wants the limelight, I just want to be good at my job. That’s how I want to go about my coaching really.
“I love being a trailblazer but without the attention. I want to see how far I can go, and work with some of the best players that I can.”
