The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a new spell of rain in September.
The PMD cautioned that heavy rains on the night of September 3 and September 4 could lead to urban flooding. This could be seen in the low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot.
Will it rain in Islamabad and Rawalpindi?
The Twin Cities and Potohar region are likely to receive rain at different times over the next three to four days.
Islamabad is expected to remain partly cloudy today. Heavy rain with thunderstorms is also possible in the city.
Several other parts of the country are also likely to receive rain. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and northern Punjab may see more rainfall. Light drizzle is also expected in some parts of Karachi.
Is there a risk of flash floods?
The risk of flash floods remains in some areas because of the expected rain. Relevant departments have been told to stay alert and take steps to deal with any emergency.
Heavy rain has also affected different parts of Lahore. Rain was reported in areas including Queens Road and Bagh Jinnah.
The PMD has given a 20 per cent chance of rain in Lahore today. The city is likely to remain partly cloudy as clouds continue to move across the area.
Pakistan floods 2026
The flood situation in Pakistan for 2026 is worsening as heavy rain and strong winds hit several parts of the country.
This has led to roads and low-lying areas getting flooded and raising the risk of further flooding in Punjab.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of further danger in the country’s northern areas.
Here, the rising temperatures combined with monsoon rain could trigger glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs).
The NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre has placed authorities in vulnerable areas on alert and called for close monitoring of the situation.
