Pakistan Railways has suspended the premium Shalimar Express service between Lahore and Karachi for one month after a railway bridge in Punjab was damaged by recent torrential rains.
The Shalimar Express operates between Lahore and Karachi via Faisalabad. However, train operations between Lahore and Faisalabad were suspended two days ago after floodwater damaged the Qila Sattar Shah–Misan Kalar railway bridge.
Following the incident, Pakistan Railways suspended train operations between Lahore and Faisalabad. The departures of several trains were cancelled, while the routes of some other services were changed.
In addition, the route of another major train service, the Karakoram Express, has also been changed.
The train previously travelled from Lahore to Karachi via Faisalabad, but due to the disruption on the affected section, it will now operate via Sahiwal.
Officials said repair work was underway to restore the damaged bridge and the affected railway track. Train services will return to normal once the rehabilitation work is completed.
Pakistan Railways has advised passengers to check the latest status of their respective trains before travelling to avoid any inconvenience.
The Shalimar Express is one of Pakistan Railways’ premium train services.
