Inspector General (IG) Sindh has ordered a province-wide crackdown on the illegal use of government registration number plates on private vehicles, the private media outlet reported on Sunday.
According to a Sindh Police directive, some government officials have been using official number plates on their personal vehicles. The police termed the practice illegal and a misuse of official privileges.
The directive said the misuse of government number plates undermines transparency and makes law enforcement more difficult. It instructed all officials to use official registration plates only on government-issued vehicles.
The IG Sindh also directed police not to allow anyone to install, display or use government number plates on private vehicles under any circumstances.
Police units across the province have been told to launch a special campaign to identify vehicles carrying illegal government number plates.
The directive said authorities will take action against all violators, regardless of their rank or position. Police will confiscate illegal number plates and may seize vehicles if necessary.
It also said police can register criminal cases against offenders where the law applies.
The IG directed senior officers to personally oversee the implementation of the orders and warned that officials who show negligence or favour violators will face departmental action.
The orders have come into effect immediately across Sindh.
