Summer camps in Punjab schools to end today

The Punjab Education Department has announced that summer camps in schools across the province will end today, June 30, after rise in temperatures and increasing concerns over the health and safety of students. Continuing such activities could expose children to rising heat levels. Schools were previously granted permission to conduct summer camps until June 30, but as the heatwave is intensifying, it was decided not to be called off. All educational institutions have now been formally informed that no summer camps will be allowed after the deadline. Additionally, the government has also warned private and public schools that strict action like heavy penalties and cancellation of schools licence will be taken against any institution found violating the directive. Education authorities across Punjab were instructed to closely monitor schools and immediately take action against any institution holding summer camps without official permission. Inspection teams have been formed for this purpose and will begin visiting schools from July 1 as per the government’s orders.

The development came after parents urged the Punjab government to immediately suspend summer camps being conducted in private schools across the province due to the ongoing severe heatwave and rising temperatures.

According to concerned parents, the extreme weather conditions are having a negative impact on children’s physical and mental well-being, exposing them to serious health risks. They argued that prolonged exposure to high temperatures could lead to heat-related illnesses, dehydration, and exhaustion among students attending summer camp activities.

Parents emphasised that the health and safety of children should be the government’s top priority and called for urgent measures to protect students from the adverse effects of the heatwave.

They appealed to the provincial authorities to temporarily halt summer camp operations until weather conditions improve, warning that continuing academic and extracurricular activities during extreme heat could put students at risk.

The demand comes as temperatures continue to soar across Punjab, with meteorological authorities forecasting persistently hot and dry conditions in many parts of the province over the coming days.

Parents have expressed hope that the government and education authorities will review the situation and take appropriate action to safeguard the well-being of school children.
