A rescue team searching for veteran Pakistani mountaineer Syed Ali Mian has returned due to bad weather after heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions forced the operation to stop, according to reports on Monday.
According to family sources, Syed Ali Mian went missing while descending from the highest peak in Swat called Falak Sar, around two weeks ago. He had successfully reached the summit before the accident happened.
The family said that he was seriously injured after the accident and lost his balance. He then fell into a ravine around 20,000 feet deep.
A rescue team was sent to recover his body, but the mission had to be called off because of severe weather on the mountain.
Sources said the search operation is now expected to resume after August if weather conditions improve.
Syed Ali Mian is one of Pakistan’s most experienced mountaineers. He has climbed Falak Sar and several other difficult peaks in the country.
Mountaineer Syed Ali Shah missing
Recently, a search operation was launched after veteran mountaineering guide Syed Ali Shah went missing during an expedition to Falak Sar Peak in Swat after a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) affected seven members of the climbing team.
According to Rescue 1122, Syed Ali Shah went missing after his safety rope snapped while he was climbing the peak. He fell from the summit, and rescuers had been searching for him since the incident.
Rescue officials said that the incident happened in the Matiltan area of Upper Swat on the evening of July 17.
Six members of the expedition were rescued. Three injured climbers were first taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Kalam. They were later shifted to Saidu Sharif Central Hospital for treatment.
The injured were identified as Hawar Hussain, 40, Haris, 22, and Haroon, 27, all from Rawalpindi. Rescue 1122 said the other three members of the group were safe.
