T20 WC: India opts to bowl in must-win clash against West Indies

India defeated West Indies by five wickets in the Super Eights match of the T20 World Cup, ending West Indies’ journey in the tournament while securing India’s place in the semi-finals.

Batting first, West Indies scored 195 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. India chased down the target in the final over.

For the West Indies, Roston Chase scored 40 runs, Shai Hope made 32, Shimron Hetmyer added 27, Romain Powell contributed 34, and Jason Holder scored 37 runs.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets, while Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakravarthy claimed one wicket each.

Sanju Samson played a brilliant, unbeaten innings of 97 runs for India, while Tilak Varma scored 27. For West Indies, Jason Holder and O’Shea Thomas took two wickets each.

In a crucial Group 1 match of the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup, the West Indies have set India a target of 196 runs to win.

In a must-win clash against the West Indies, India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to field first at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

Batting first, West Indies scored 195 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. Roston Chase led the way with 40 runs, while Jason Holder added 37.

Rovman Powell contributed 34, and Shai Hope chipped in with 32 to help post a competitive total.

For India, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets, keeping the Caribbean side under the 200-run mark.

With a semifinal berth at stake, India now faces the challenging task of chasing 196 runs to stay in contention for the title.
