Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, has said that there is no immediate risk of a war between the US and Iran while laying emphasis on the importance of diplomatic solutions to end the conflict.
Turkish FM Hakan Fidan and Iranian FM Seyed Abbas Araghchi, spoke over the phone on Monday, about developments in nuclear negotiations, according to official sources at Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency confirmed that the two parties discussed the most recent developments in the ongoing nuclear negotiations and potential future prospects during the call.
According to Turkey’s Foreign Ministry, the conversation was part of ongoing diplomatic talks between the two nations.
The discussion takes place at a time when regional and international actors are paying heightened attention to diplomatic activity surrounding Iran’s nuclear profile. Turkey has continued to play a diplomatic role in averting crises in the Middle Eastern region in the past.
Earlier, Iranian FM Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that Iran is looking for “serious, genuine, and result-oriented negotiations,” emphasising that Tehran is willing to engage in talks that aim to achieve a resolution, so long as the other party shows the same level of seriousness and is willing to engage in constructive dialogue. One of the main pillars of Iran’s political interactions on the global scene continues to be the nuclear negotiations.
US Iran tensions
The United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that the recent talks with Iran went smoothly and stressed on the need for a deal to be made between the two countries.
“You have to get in position. We have plenty of time if you remember Venezuela, we waited around for a while and we’re in no rush,” the President said, when asked about a timeline. “We have very good talks going with Iran. We have very good talks going with Russia and Ukraine. We’re doing a lot of good talking.”, the US President said.
“The results today with Iran … we’re gonna meet again early next week. And they want to make a deal as they should want to make a deal,” he continued. “They know the consequences if they don’t. If they don’t make a deal, the consequences are very steep. So, we’ll see what happens.”, he further added.
