Thailand has declared a two-day public holiday as authorities work to drain floodwater from Bangkok after heavy rain flooded homes and roads across the capital.
At least eight people have died in flood-related incidents across the country, while floods have affected more than 545,000 people in 25 provinces.
In Bangkok, nearly 4,900 people have moved to shelters after some areas received up to 470mm of rain within 48 hours, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). The administration has declared all 50 districts of Bangkok disaster zones.
Authorities have also moved around 1,500 bedridden and other patients requiring care to hospitals across the capital.
The eastern parts of Bangkok received more rain overnight, but most of the city remained largely unaffected, the BMA said in an update on Monday.
The government has declared September 28 and 29 special public holidays in Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan. The move aims to reduce traffic and travel and help authorities manage the impact of the flooding.
