Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has intensified its campaign against gas theft, illegal connections and other technical violations in Multan, disconnecting 65 gas meters during a recent operation.
According to operational data released on Monday, teams of the SNGPL Unaccounted For Gas (UFG) Control Task Force inspected 1,330 locations across different areas of the district and took action against consumers found involved in serious violations of company regulations.
The highest number of disconnections, 28, were made over the unauthorised use of gas compressors. Nine of these cases were detected during recent raids. The task force also removed illegal gas extensions at nine locations and disconnected 10 meters that had either been tampered with or installed upside down.
In addition, nine meters were disconnected over unauthorised commercial use, while two were removed following illegal shifting. Five meters were disconnected at the request of consumers, and one was removed because the location fell outside the designated service network. The operation also uncovered one case of direct gas theft. An SNGPL spokesperson said the ongoing crackdown is aimed at controlling gas pilferage, improving system pressure and ensuring a safe, reliable and uninterrupted gas supply to legitimate consumers.
SNGPL General Manager Multan reiterated that consumer safety remains a key priority and warned that strict legal action would continue against individuals involved in gas theft, unauthorised connections and other violations. The company further emphasised that enforcement operations would remain ongoing to protect the gas distribution system and safeguard the interests of genuine consumers.
