The possibility of appointing foreign consultants to the Pakistan cricket team’s coaching staff has emerged, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in contact with former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait and former New Zealand opener Martin Guptill.
According to sources, the PCB is holding discussions with Tait over the role of bowling consultant, while negotiations are underway with Guptill for the position of fielding consultant. Sources indicate that there is a strong possibility of the PCB finalising an agreement with Guptill.
Tait, however, is reportedly unable to commit the time required for a full-time coaching role across all three formats. He previously stepped down from his position with the Bangladesh team due to family commitments. As a result, the PCB is considering appointing Tait as a bowling consultant rather than a full-time coach.
The bowling consultant position became vacant following the departure of Pakistan’s white-ball bowling coach Ashley Noffke, who stepped down on September 23, 2026. On the same day, Noffke was appointed head coach of the Netherlands national cricket team. His initial contract runs until the end of 2028.
Under Noffke’s leadership, the Netherlands will participate in the qualification campaigns for the 2027 ODI World Cup and the 2028 T20 World Cup. Following Noffke’s departure, the PCB advertised the vacant bowling coach position. The board had also advertised a fielding coach vacancy several weeks earlier. The PCB is now exploring the possibility of bringing in Tait and Guptill to strengthen Pakistan’s bowling and fielding departments with international expertise.
