The University of Sindh (SU) is calling for nominations for internship opportunities and for providing wheelchairs to students with disabilities.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson from the University stated that AjJved Ahmed Bhatti, the Director of the Bureau of STAGS, announced that all academic departments should submit nominations for eligible students currently enrolled at the university.
This initiative is designed to create internship opportunities for students and to supply wheelchairs to differently-abled students, helping them with their academic and personal requirements.
University of Sindh signs MoU for disability support
The development comes after the University of Sindh and Al-Asar Welfare Organisation (AAWO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in areas such as disability rehabilitation, inclusive education, research, and community welfare initiatives.
On Monday, the MoU was signed by Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Fateh Muhammad Mari and AAWO President Imdad Ali during a ceremony at the VC office.
As stated by SU spokesperson Nadir Ali Mugheri, the agreement will see both institutions collaborating on student internships, research projects, training programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns focused on empowering individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, the MoU will create opportunities for Sindh University students to gain hands-on experience through placements at AAWO rehabilitation centers.
The two organisations also committed to hosting joint events and capacity-building activities to promote the welfare and social inclusion of individuals with disabilities.
Digital Education Cards distributed to students in Karachi
Earlier, Jamaat e Islami Pakistan launched digital education cards in Karachi to help students buy items related to their school worth Rs10,000, according to official reports.
The cards were distributed during a ceremony at Gulberg Gymkhana, Karachi. Around 5,000 male and female students from town schools received support under the programme, according to the reports.
Authorities noted that students could use the cards to buy books, notebooks, stationery, uniforms, and other educational items. The initiative is expected to reduce the financial burden on families facing rising education expenses.
