A University of Okara student has died after being critically injured in a bus accident on the National Highway outside the university.
The student, identified as Ammar, died while receiving treatment in hospital, according to reports.
Four students were injured in the incident and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
According to initial reports, the students were standing on the road and attempting to stop a bus when another bus, reportedly travelling at high speed, tried to pass through the area, leading to the collision.
The circumstances surrounding the crash have raised concerns among students and members of the university community, particularly over road safety near the campus.
The incident comes amid continuing concerns over road safety in Punjab, where emergency services record a large number of traffic accidents.
Rescue 1122 data cited in reports show that the province recorded tens of thousands of road crashes during several months of 2026.
The figures include more than 36,000 crashes in January, nearly 38,000 in February, over 43,000 in May and more than 41,000 in September.
Lahore has remained one of the major accident hotspots, while motorcycles account for a significant proportion of reported crashes.
Rescue 1122 figures indicate that Punjab sees an average of about 1,350 road crashes and 14 deaths every day.
Road safety officials have repeatedly highlighted speeding, unsafe driving and motorcycle-related accidents as major concerns.
The death of the University of Okara student is expected to renew calls for improved traffic management and safety measures around the university and along the National Highway.
