Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon says University Road to be opened for traffic by end of July

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that work on the Red Line project is ongoing around the clock, and University Road in Karachi will be open to traffic by the end of July.

He acknowledged that the public may have experienced temporary inconveniences, for which the government made difficult decisions and apologised to the citizens.

He shared these comments while speaking to the media during his inspection of the Red Line BRT development work on Saturday. Present at the event were Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, CEO TransKarachi Zubair Channa, and other officials.

The Sindh Minister noted that the motorway in Karachi should have originated from the city, but the planning reflected the opposite.

He pointed out that Karachi is situated in the southernmost part of Pakistan and faces a 20 percent water shortage.

He mentioned that the opening of the Bhutto Highway has greatly benefited citizens by reducing travel time. He added that police, ambulance, and rescue services are stationed on this highway to provide immediate assistance to the public.

Sharjeel Inam Memon further commented that Karachi has the highest number of health facilities in Pakistan, attracting patients from across the country for free treatment.

He highlighted the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences in Gambat, where patients receive free and quality care.

He also stated that the Sindh government has improved roads throughout the province using its own funds, and work is ongoing.

He mentioned that the world’s largest housing project is in progress in Sindh, aimed at constructing homes for 2.1 million low-income individuals.

He added that the Sindh government has invested one billion dollars in Thar coal, which is producing affordable electricity and benefiting the entire nation.
