US signals deeper engagement with Pakistan

The United States has renewed its interest in strengthening engagement with Pakistan on shared priorities, including counter-terrorism, economic development, and global challenges.

Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, confirmed this during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Antalya, Türkiye, on Friday.

During the meeting, Massad Boulos conveyed greetings from US President Donald Trump and praised Pakistan’s role in supporting regional stability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly received the message and also shared his regards for President Trump, recalling his previous positive interactions with him.

He appreciated President Trump’s leadership, saying it helped secure a ceasefire between Pakistan and India last year when tensions between the two countries were very high. The prime minister also praised Trump for his role in helping achieve the ceasefire in Lebanon.

Both sides discussed regional developments, including Pakistan’s peace efforts that contributed to the ceasefire, as well as the recent Islamabad Talks.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need to further strengthen Pakistan-US relations, especially in trade, economic cooperation, and multilateral engagement on issues of mutual interest.
