Pakistan ‘knocked out’ of Women’s T20 World Cup
Pakistan have now been knocked out of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup after losing to Bangladesh in Southampton on Saturday.
The defeat ended the teams chances of reaching the semi finals. It is also the teams third straight loss in the tournament.
Bangladesh scored 123 for 6 in their innings. Pakistan tried to chase the target but fell short in the end.
The team started well with Muneeba Ali scoring 25 runs and Gull Feroza scoring 23 runs. The opening partnership gave them 49 runs.
After that, Pakistan lost wickets quickly in the middle order. This made the chase difficult for Captain Fatima Sana who scored 10 runs. Only four batters in the team reached double figures.
Wahab Riaz said that he was disappointed after the loss. He said the team lost matches because of their own mistakes.
“It is very disappointing to be out of the World Cup because from our point of view, I still think that no other team has beaten you,” Wahab said. He added, “It’s you yourself who has got beaten by the other teams.”
He added that other teams did not fully dominate them but Pakistan gave away chances.
“But I think unfortunately in the all last three games, we were not up to the mark and it was us who has given the games away,” Wahab added.
He also said that the senior players need to take more responsibility. He explained that the team was in a good position during the chase but could not finish the game.
Further, he said that the required run rate was not very high, but poor execution caused problems.
Pakistan will now play Australia in Leeds next on Tuesday. After that, they will face the Netherlands in their final match of the tournament on Saturday.
