WhatsApp has a set of new features aimed at making group chats more functional, organised and private. The new update introduces three separate additions to the polling experience, giving users greater control over how they participate and how polls are managed.
Users with the latest update can now hide their names when voting in polls. The update also lets users to set a time limit for polls and edit a poll within 15 minutes timeframe of creating it.
New group features
Moreover, WhatsApp has also introduced an @all mention feature that lets users notify every member of a group. In groups with more than 32 members, however, this feature will be restricted to group admins only.
The platform also added a “Create a similar group” option, accessible from the group details screen. This allows users to form a smaller group using selected members from an existing one, making it easier to organise separate conversations without starting from scratch.
These features are currently being rolled out to WhatsApp users worldwide.
New chat themes under testing
Separately, WhatsApp is testing three new chat theme categories for Android users. The “Featured” category includes animated wallpapers with slow, subtle motion designed to add visual appeal without distracting from conversations.
The “Doodle” category revives WhatsApp’s classic backgrounds, while “Minimal” offers plain white or dark backgrounds based on the device’s system settings. All three categories automatically adjust chat bubble colours.
The new theme options remain under development and are not yet available to beta testers.
