The Ramzan Talent Hunt Women’s Cricket tournament has been officially launched, marking a significant step forward for women’s cricket uplift.
A total of six teams are competing in the tournament, showcasing emerging talent from across the region.
In a major boost for participants, the prize money has been increased from Rs 200,000 to Rs 600,000, reflecting strong institutional support for the initiative.
Following the final selection process, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will retain the selected players.
These players will go on to represent the CDA in future competitions, providing them with continued opportunities to grow and excel in the sport.
CDA Chairman inaugurates tournament
Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, inaugurated the tournament.
While addressing the media persons Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that the initial plan was to include four women’s teams, but due to the overwhelming response and talent displayed during open trials, the number of participating teams was increased to six.
He stated that all selected players demonstrated excellent talent during the trials and that participants from across the country were given equal opportunities in this Talent Hunt Tournament. He further suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should also launch a similar Talent Hunt program.
Responding to a question, he stated that on the instructions of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the CDA is taking vigorous steps to promote not only cricket but also other sports in the federal capital, Islamabad.
He said that men and women from across the country who are interested in cricket can participate in the tournament by completing the registration process.
The Chairman emphasised that players will be selected purely based on talent and merit, and that the CDA will provide full support in this regard. He added that a separate talent hunt for men will also be conducted.
150 women cricketers take part in open trials
As many as 150 women cricketers took part in the open trials on the first day of the Ramzan Talent Hunt Cricket Tournament.
Open trials for both male and female players were held under the ‘Ramzan Talent Hunt Cricket Tournament’ at the Diamond Cricket Ground.
