YouTube tests $20 minimum earning limit for creators

YouTube is testing a new minimum earning limit option that could allow some eligible content creators to withdraw their earnings once they reach $20, compared with the existing minimum payout threshold of $100.

The trial is reportedly limited to selected participants in the YouTube Partner Program in the United States, India and Indonesia.

Under the current system, creators generally need to accumulate at least $100 in earnings before receiving a payment.

The proposed change would reduce that amount to $20, allowing eligible creators to access their revenue sooner.

YouTube has confirmed that it is temporarily testing the lower threshold to make receiving earnings more convenient. Creators included in the trial have reportedly been notified about the change.

However, the company has not announced how long the test will continue or whether the revised threshold will be introduced globally.

Is Pakistan also a part of this?

If the trial is successful, the option could eventually be extended to other countries, including Pakistan.

YouTube has not yet confirmed whether or when the change will be available to Pakistani creators.

The development comes amid growing competition among video-sharing platforms.

Instagram is also testing longer videos of up to 90 minutes for selected creators, according to reports.

YouTube earning new rules

YouTube is set to double the eligibility requirements for new creators seeking advertising and YouTube Premium revenue through its YouTube Partner Programme (YPP), with the changes due to take effect on 1 February 2027.

Under the revised rules, new applicants will need at least 1,000 subscribers, alongside either 8,000 qualified public watch hours over the previous 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the past 90 days. The current requirements are 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views, respectively.

YouTube said creators already enrolled in the Partner Programme would not be removed solely because of the higher entry requirements.

However, existing participants will need to review and accept updated monetisation terms in YouTube Studio by 31 January 2027 to continue earning through the relevant features.
