Gilani says nations progress through knowledge, innovation and human intellect

Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, stated on Saturday that in today’s world, nations will advance not solely through natural resources or physical infrastructure, but through knowledge, innovation, and human intellect.

While addressing the Graduation and High Achievers Ceremony at the University of Lahore as the chief guest, he remarked that the world is evolving at an unexpected rate due to emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, blockchain, quantum computing, and robotics, which are reshaping economies, healthcare systems, industries, and the nature of work.

In congratulating the graduating students and award recipients, Gilani emphasised that this event was not just about degrees and medals, but rather the culmination of years of dedication, sacrifice, patience, and hope.

He acknowledged that behind every successful student are families and teachers whose support and guidance have been crucial in shaping their futures.

He congratulated the University of Lahore for establishing itself as a leading institution in Pakistan’s higher education landscape and praised its Department of International Qualifications for fostering globally recognised education through collaborations with international institutions.

The Senate chairman further added that educational institutions should function as centers of excellence and technology incubators, adhering to both national and international standards.

He highlighted the importance of equipping students not only with professional qualifications but also with critical thinking skills, adaptability, and the ability to engage in lifelong learning.

In his address to the graduates, Yusuf Raza Gilani encouraged them not to be just spectators in the ongoing technological revolution, stating that Pakistan is rich in talent and potential. He expressed that the youth require opportunities, confidence, and determination to persist in learning and adapting to new concepts.
