August 2026 is expected to be a month for rest and recreation, as Pakistanis working a five-day week may receive a total of 12 holidays, including two public holidays and 10 weekend days.
The month will have five Saturdays and five Sundays, giving employees of government offices and private organisations that observe a five-day working week a total of 10 regular weekly holidays.
Pakistanis will also enjoy a three-day weekend on Independence Day. August 14 falls on a Friday this year, followed by the regular weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16.
According to the federal government’s official holiday notification for 2026, a public holiday for Eid Milad-un-Nabi is also expected on Tuesday, August 25.
The final date of the religious holiday may, however, depend on the sighting of the moon.
With the two public holidays and 10 weekend days combined, eligible employees could receive as many as 12 days off during August.
The total number may vary for people working in organisations that follow a six-day working week or have different holiday policies.
