Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz said a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, is essential to protect the rights of the Kashmiri people and ensure lasting peace in the region, the private media outlet reported on Sunday.
In her message on Accession to Pakistan Day, Maryam Nawaz said the resolution passed by the people of Jammu and Kashmir on July 19, 1947, in favour of joining Pakistan reflected their long-standing aspirations and strong bond with the country.
She said Pakistan would continue to extend diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmiri people. She added that the country would keep raising the issue of the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination at international forums.
Maryam Nawaz said the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir had waited for decades to exercise their right to self-determination. She paid tribute to their struggle, sacrifices and resilience, and expressed hope that they would one day be able to decide their own future.

Earlier, the Punjab government announced a new financial assistance scheme to help people build and repair their homes amid rising inflation.
Speaking at an event in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the government would provide Rs500,000 to eligible citizens to repair the roofs of their homes as part of its efforts to improve housing facilities across the province.
She also said that under the Apna Ghar Scheme, around 200,000 homes have been completed within two years. She added that people who did not own land were given five-marla plots to help them build their own homes.
