The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has intensified its crackdown on fake and suspicious identity documents, issuing notices to 741 more holders of flagged CNICs across Punjab. NADRA has warned that the identity cards of individuals who fail to appear before the authority within 15 days will be blocked.
The crackdown has also revealed cases in which Afghan refugees allegedly obtained Pakistani identity cards illegally. NADRA’s Regional Headquarters has released a preliminary list of 741 additional individuals in Punjab whose identity cards have been flagged as suspicious. Notices have also been issued to those individuals.
The list includes individuals from the Jhelum district and various tehsils across Punjab. All those issued notices have been directed to appear at their relevant NADRA zonal office within 15 days and bring the required supporting documents.
NADRA officials said that identity cards belonging to individuals who fail to appear within the stipulated period will be blocked. Action will also be taken against individuals found to be involved in obtaining suspicious identity documents, as well as against those who facilitated the process. The ongoing crackdown has also uncovered cases involving Afghan refugees who allegedly obtained Pakistani identity cards through illegal means. On the other hand, NADRA has warned citizens to be careful of fake tracking IDs and misleading information on social media platforms.
According to a NADRA spokesperson, tracking IDs will not be provided through comments on social media due to concerns about protecting people’s personal information. Citizens have also been asked not to share their tracking IDs or other sensitive information in comments on NADRA’s social media accounts. NADRA advised citizens to use only official sources and verified platforms for identity documents and other NADRA-related matters. People have also been told not to trust unverified social media accounts, links or messages.
