Grand Theft Auto VI has made a major impact on Netflix, with the streaming platform’s extended look at Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated title attracting 31.1 million views in just four days.
Titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, the 27-minute special premiered exclusively on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, at 3 p.m. ET.
The footage remained exclusive to the streaming service for six hours before Rockstar Games released it on YouTube.
By the end of Netflix’s weekly viewing period on Sunday, August 30, the special had become the platform’s most-watched title of the week.
It was listed in Netflix’s English-language film category and reached No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries tracked by the streaming service.

The performance represents a significant milestone for Netflix, particularly because the GTA 6 special marks the platform’s expansion into a different form of gaming-related entertainment.
Rockstar’s subsequent YouTube release has also attracted millions of viewers. The footage had surpassed 17 million views on the company’s official YouTube account by Tuesday.
However, the figures from the two platforms cannot be directly compared because Netflix and YouTube use different methods to calculate views.
Netflix determines views by dividing total hours watched by a title’s runtime, while YouTube registers a view when a video begins playing, including partial and repeat views.
The special offers fans the longest official look yet at Grand Theft Auto VI, featuring cinematic sequences alongside gameplay captured entirely from the PlayStation 5 version.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
