Renowned Pakistani actor Jamal Shah has broken his silence after his former wife, actress Faryal Gohar, made painful allegations about domestic abuse during their marriage.
Responding to a post on X discussing the allegations, Jamal Shah wrote: “Aurat par haat uthanay walay par laanat ho, mein is ke illawa kuch nahi bol sakta ke khuda us ko khush rakhay!!!!!” (May curses befall upon the one who raises a hand on a woman; I can’t say anything beyond this—that may God keep them happy.)

He said in a separate post that “I have never spoken ill of Faryal in any interview to date. Nida is like a daughter to me. When she called me for her program, she didn’t mention that Faryal would be there too. A day or so later, when she told me about it, refusing felt a bit awkward to me. I remained quite reserved during Nida’s program, and even then, when this channel announced they were making a serial about our lives, they asked for my consent, so I said I’d give an answer only after seeing the script. But now my answer is one hundred percent no, because these peddler channels aren’t worthy of me seeing the story of my life on this channel or ones like it. In the past too, I’ve rejected several crude scripts from various channels, but now, Inshallah, I will never come on this channel ARY!!!!
My marriage to Faryal lasted five years, and I have neither any regrets about it nor any bitterness. We separated in a very civilized manner, and for quite a long time, there was no mention of the divorce in the media at all.
My prayers are still with her; may God keep her happy with her family.
I thank my Lord for the simple life I have with my Filmi—that is, an extremely capable and balanced wife—and three beloved children. You have every right to form whatever opinion you want about these recent media statements, but from my tongue, not a single wrong word about Faryal will ever come out.!.!.!.”

Faryal Gohar recently opened up about her first marriage to Jamal Shah during an appearance on a morning show. The couple remained married for nine years before their relationship eventually ended.
Renowned Pakistani television actress Faryal Gohar has made painful revelations about her first marriage to prominent actor Jamal Shah. The couple remained married for nine years before their relationship eventually ended.
During a recent appearance on a morning show, Faryal Gohar spoke openly about what she described as one of the darkest and most difficult periods of her life, highlighting issues including domestic violence and societal pressure.
Faryal said she was only 23 years old when she got married and that it was a marriage of her own choice. She said her family had no major objections to the relationship because her husband belonged to a Syed family.
However, she said the situation later deteriorated to the point where her family questioned whether her husband really belonged to a Syed family because, according to her, he would physically assault her. She said she endured the situation because it was a love marriage, adding that “love is truly blind.”
The actress said it was extremely difficult to put into words the abuse she allegedly suffered after her marriage.
“I was beaten with leather belts, and the violence was so severe that I suffered multiple pregnancy losses. The beatings also caused severe pain in my kidneys, which eventually led to surgeries,” she said.
She further revealed that she sometimes had to stop attending her classes because of bruises on her face and serious injuries. She also had to conceal marks on her body caused by the alleged abuse.
According to Faryal, the most painful aspect was not limited to physical violence but also the social and traditional restrictions imposed on her.
She said she was not allowed to leave the house and could not even go out for a walk. Whenever she had to travel somewhere, she was reportedly made to sit inside a rickshaw behind a covering, with the vehicle completely concealed so that no one could see her.
She carried all that trauma within herself for 35 years. I got goosebumps watching this clip of Faryal Gohar, imagining the agony of being beaten with belts while pregnant and, even in London, being kicked in the kidneys by her former husband Jamal Shah.

During the programme, Faryal also spoke about what she described as a harsh social reality, claiming that 80 per cent of women in Pakistan face domestic violence in married life. She said the issue is not restricted to women from ordinary backgrounds, as educated and independent women can also experience such abuse, describing herself as a personal example.
Offering advice to women, the actress said they should understand that they deserve a life free from humiliation and mistreatment and that it is important to find a way out of abusive circumstances.
She concluded by stressing the need to properly educate and raise boys and men so that they learn to respect women.
